In 1989, plans were developed to change land use in "Downtown" Woonsocket. A study of environmental influences as well as social, cultural and economic conditions comprised the program. The study suggested that change was needed. The redevelopment plans for the Social area were comprised of the following:
Recent public improvements in the area have included new bocce courts
and other expanded recreation options at Bouley Field, new expanded
library and will soon welcome a riverside bike-path. All development was
designed to maintain the integrity of the area and to avoid an "asphalt
jungle" appearance. Careful selection of landscaping, paving materials and
construction concepts have accomplished this objective. The area has generous parking serving commercial ventures, retail
stores, several banks, and a variety of restaurants all of which
contribute to making the area a convenient and pleasant place to work. |
