Substance Abuse Coordinating Team Elderly Committee

The Policy and Enforcement Committee is made up of representatives from the Woonsocket Police Department, local business people, and elected city officials. The purpose of this committee is to work on policy and enforcement issues involving alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

Some of the initiatives of the committee include:

  • Partnering with the Division of Substance Abuse in "Underage Drinking - Arresting Behavior" Campaign
  • Compliance Checks by the Woonsocket Police Department.
  • Cops in Shops program to assess if minors are purchasing alcohol
  • Informational meetings for alcohol and tobacco vendors to review laws and answer questions from vendors.
  • Work with restaurant owners who are interested in a "smoke-free" environment.

2002/2003 Initiatives

  • Meeting with tobacco and alcohol vendors to review ID identification procedures for minors (Date TBA).
  • Meeting with restaurant owners who are interested in a "smoke-free" environment.
  • Assess "smoke-free" workplace policies in the city of Woonsocket.
  • Update server training resolution.

REMINDER

ALL MANAGEMENT AND ANYONE WHO SELLS OR SERVES ALCOHOL AT YOUR ESTABLISHMENT MUST BE TRAINED IN AN ALCOHOL SERVER PROGRAM.  THIS RESOLUTION (92 R 99) WAS PASSED BY THE WOONSOCKET CITY COUNCIL IN SEPTEMBER 1992.

IN ADDITION, AN AMENDMENT (O1 R 63) WAS PASSED ON AUGUST 6, 2001 WHICH STATES:

"AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION RENEWAL OR TRANSFER EACH LICENSE HOLDER SHALL FURNISH A LIST OF EMPLOYEES AND/OR SERVERS TO THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE.  THE LIST WILL CONTAIN THEIR NAME, DATE OF BIRTH, DATE OF EMPLOYMENT AND DATE OF CERTIFICATION.  RECORDS OF EMPLOYEES AND/OR SERVERS, DATE OF HIRE AND DATE OF CERTIFICATION SHALL BE MAINTAINED AT THE PLACE OF BUSINESS AND SHALL BE PRODUCED UPON DEMAND OF A BOARD OF LICENSE COMMISSIONER MEMBER OR THOSE AUTHORIZED BY THE BOARD."
