new name with the same commitment to growth...

Thank you for visiting our page and for your patience as we develop it.

The Main Street 2000 Development Corporation, now doing business as Woonsocket Main Street - Riverfront Initiative, is a private-non-profit organization that was created by the City of Woonsocket and the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce in 1990 to address the decline of business and general activity on Main Street.  The City realized that it needed a group to focus and implement an organized effort to create and improve the appearance, business and general image of Main Street

In the year 2002 the organization still continues in its efforts to attract new retail, housing and office usage for its downtown.  the organization and the City now hope to encompass the surrounding riverfront area and bring new life to this area.  Main Street's two anchors are the Museum of Work and Culture and the restored historic Stadium Theatre, which attracts many visitors.
